It turns out the biggest obstacles to self-care aren’t always external — they’re the little voices in our heads saying we’re doing it wrong, being selfish, or that it “should feel different.”
Those thoughts can derail our goals and shape how we feel.
Facing barriers to self-care? You’re not alone.
Whether it’s lack of time, low energy, or limited support, obstacles pop up — but they can be solved.
A simple problem-solving approach can help you spot what’s getting in your way and find practical solutions that actually fit your life.

Want to make a change that actually sticks?
Here’s a motivation game-changer ⬇️
1️⃣ Rate how important this change is to you (0–10).
2️⃣ Ask yourself why it’s that number—and not lower.
3️⃣ That answer? That’s your why. Keep it front and center.
When you know your why, even the hard days feel more doable.

Sometimes, real self-care is hard. Even when we know what will help us feel better, it can still feel so hard to start. That push-pull? It’s called ambivalence—and it’s completely normal.
The motivation you need is already inside you. You just need the right tools to bring it out.

Once you’ve identified your values, it’s time to put them into action.
Vague goals like “be healthier” or “get organized” can leave you feeling stuck or overwhelmed. That’s why SMART goals are so powerful — they help you create a clear, doable plan that actually moves you toward what matters.

🧠 Why your mindset might be getting in the way
💛 And how to identify small, doable changes that truly support your wellbeing
Before you can focus on self-care, you have to check in with yourself.
Not just “I’m fine,” but:
→ How is my body feeling?
→ What emotions are showing up?
→ What am I thinking—beneath the noise?
We spend so much time doing that we forget to notice. But tuning in isn’t indulgent — it’s how we reclaim our wellbeing.
As summer 2025 began, I realized I’d been running on empty—out of sync with my body and just going through the motions. I knew it was time to practice what I preach. So, I declared it “Self-Care Summer”- a season to realign, recharge, and reclaim my wellbeing. Many of the blogs here grew from that commitment, offering realistic, intentional steps toward a life centered on what matters most and supportive of wellbeing—inside and out.
