Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia
(CBT-I)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is a short-term, evidence-based therapy that helps you focus on the thoughts, feelings, and expectations about sleep that are keeping you up at night. Using the science of sleep and the data that you collect about your particular sleep patterns, I will help you identify things that you can do to start sleeping better. Unlike medication that may help you fall asleep, CBT-I gets to the underlying problems so you can fix them for good, without any scary side effects.
CBT-I is helpful if..
You have trouble falling asleep.
You have trouble staying asleep.
You are waking up too early.
You are often so tired that you call out of work or skip activities with friends and family.
You feel like you need to drink multiple cups of coffee or take naps to make it through the day.
Your bedtimes and wake times are all over the place.
You can’t turn off your brain at night.
You dread bedtime because you are afraid to have another sleepless night.
What to Expect in CBT-I
You will learn about how sleep works so that you can change your habits to make it work for you.
You will track your sleep using a simple sleep diary each morning.
Based on sleep diary data, we’ll set a bedtime and wake time that will improve your sleep quality.
Once you are getting good quality of sleep, we will work to increase the amount of sleep you are getting.
You’ll try new CBT-I skills between sessions to start to improve your sleep.
You’ll talk about thoughts and feelings that impact your sleep and learn ways to manage them.
A typical course of treatment is about 4-8 hour-long sessions.
Imagine falling asleep quickly and sleeping through the night, waking up refreshed and ready to tackle your day. Every day.
